“007 For your eyes only” Mission accomplished in Cortina
For one of the most spectacular spy movies dedicated to Agent 007 James Bond, “For your eyes only”, the 40th anniversary sounds as something wonderful. The famous movie directed by John Glenn, released on 24th June 1981, was filmed also in Cortina d’Ampezzo, and still provides a wide view of all the winter sports practiced in the Queen of the Dolomites and not only.
The film locations are available to everyone in Cortina, and to make your favourite movie a personal experience you can visit them in person.
Chosen both for its glamorous image, perfectly suited to the sophisticated Agent 007, and for the wide range of Olympic and sports venues offered, Cortina was, and still is, the perfect venue for secret missions and action sequences.
For a modern experience of the film heritage expert skiers shouldn’t miss the chance of following in the tracks of James Bond by enjoying a descent on the Olympia delle Tofane piste.
For those who just would like to admire the piste from above, the mountain lodge Rifugio Pomedes offers splendid views over the Olympia delle Tofane piste and the incredible surroundings of the Ampezzo Valley.
The Bob Bar, a small venue in traditional style is, as suggested by its name, the bar located near the finish line of the Eugenio Monti bobsleigh track. The Trampolino Olimpico Italia ski-jump, which used to be the landing slope in the 1956 Winter Olympics, can be reached by foot walking on the former Railway, now called la passeggiata (the promenade), for those who prefer to see it from a different viewpoint. And to enjoy an afternoon skating, the Olympic Ice Stadium is the perfect ending to a day spent discovering Cortina d’Ampezzo’s Olympic locations.
Ready for its second Winter Olympics after 70 years, (the first games broadcast live on television, that firmly established Cortina as a prestigious location for winter sports), the Queen of the Dolomites is shining with the same beauty, and preparing for a more modern sustainable edition, the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, together with Milan.
Cortina celebrates every day its important film heritage: the imposing Ampezzo Dolomites, the dense mountain forests, the many ski pistes and the historic Olympic facilities have attracted many international film production companies to Cortina d’Ampezzo in order to make action and adventure films.
However, Cortina is not only the sport venue par excellence, it is also home to both romantic itineraries and glamorous sites. With its infamous corners made for love stories, and its high street, Corso Italia, scattered with shops, Cortina became, and is, the perfect location for unique shop scenes as well as for dangerous chases (on a Lotus Esprit).
