One year to go to the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships in Cortina

Cortina is enjoying exciting times, in anticipation of the major events the town will host by 2026: the 2020 Ski World Cup Finals, 2021 Ski World Championships and 2026 Winter Olympics with Milan.

Friday 7th February marks exactly one year to the opening of the FIS World Ski  Championships Cortina 2021 and just 40 days to the first race of the World Cup Finals on 18th March. The Finals will mark the return of Men’s races to Cortina and will feature Downhill, Super G, Giant Slalom, Slalom and the team event for a total of 5 days of races. Ticketing for the 2020 event is live.

Preparation is well underway for these two major events. On the slopes, the winter 2019/20 season has seen the inauguration of the new Freccia nel Cielo gondola, from town to the slopes of Col Druscié and the whole Tofana area, as well as the opening of the new Lino Lacedelli piste for athletes training in the Cinque Torri area.

Spring 2020 will see the beginning of construction work for the new gondola that will link the Tofana and Cinque Torri areas, revolutionising the access to Cortina’s slopes and making it possible to go from Cortina’s centre to the slopes of Alta Badia just by lift and skiing through the areas of Tofana, Cinque Torri, Col Gallina and Lagazuoi. Besides making Cortina’s ski area easier to enjoy, the lift will reduce road traffic and pollution.

Meanwhile, in town, this winter season has seen the completion of renovations in several hotels, including room renovations at the Hotel Europa and Hotel Villa Alpina and an improved spa area at the Cristallo, a Luxury Collection Resort and Spa. Further work is underway, including new rooms at Rosapetra Spa Resort and renovation work at Hotel Ciasa Lorenzi.

Both on and off the slopes the anticipation of these forthcoming events is leading to improvements and enhancement of the resort, for both racers and recreational skiers alike.
