Cross-country skiing in Cortina: Immerse yourself in the pristine nature of the Ampezzo Dolomites
Cross-country skiing in Cortina d’Ampezzo is an ideal outdoor activity to practice in winter season 2020-21: the emotion of skiing surrounded by the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites, immersed in the soft silence of nature, is priceless.
Thanks to heavy snowfall, the cross-country skiing season in the Queen of the Dolomites will be even more magical, with wonderful snowy tracks immersed in the enchanting wintery landscape.
In Cortina, there are over 70 km of trails of various technical levels and types: from comfortable, flat, and straight trails to athletic itineraries, with multiple tracks and extra room for skaters.
The Fiames Nordic Center is ideal for beginners: it is possible to take lessons with the local ski instructors, to rent all the necessary equipment and to start learning on a mostly flat surface, while experienced cross-country skiers can challenge themselves on the highly technical tracks of the Passo Tre Croci.
Cortina belongs to the Dolomiti NordicSki association: Europe’s largest cross country skiing carousel, with over 1,300 km of tracks in ten different resorts.
In addition, Cortina has a long cross-country skiing tradition, with a historic race that takes place every year since 1977: the Granfondo Cortina-Dobbiaco, one of the most traditional ski marathon races in Italy, part of the international Visma Ski Classics Championship. The route on which the race takes place is the so called Via delle Dolomiti (“the Dolomites path”), former railway line that connects Cortina to Dobbiaco-Toblach. The race will be held on 23rd and 24th January (42 km in classic technique on the first day and 32 km in skating technique on the second day).
