Lights on Cortina slopes for final countdown: only 30 days until Ski World Championships

Cortina d’Ampezzo (BL), 7 January 2021 – Tomorrow, Friday 8 January, with 30 days to go until Cortina 2021, the slopes will be illuminated for the final countdown. The Queen of the Dolomites is ready to host the Alpine Ski World Championships, due to be held 7-21 February, and looks forward to welcoming the stars of alpine skiing to extraordinarily snow-covered landscapes this year.

Floodlights will illuminate every single World Championship track on the Tofane: The Olympia, where the Women’s Giant Slalom, Downhill, Super G and Combined races will take place; the Vertigine, stage for the Men’s Downhill, Super G and Combined races; the Druscié A, where we will see the Men’s and Women’s Slalom; the Labirinti, the Men’s Giant Slalom track; and Rumerlo where the Finish Area is located.

In this way, Cortina, world capital of skiing, sends a message of hope and faith in the future during this difficult time shadowed by the pandemic. The Queen of the Dolomites comes prepared for the World Championships firmly focused on the future, with brand new slopes and lift facilities, modern infrastructure, and products worthy of her reputation as a premier global tourist destination. A collective effort, fuelled by the energy of an entire community determined to reclaim its history as a pioneering international travel destination and capital of snow sports.

Despite the challenging conditions imposed by the pandemic, the organizing committee has worked tirelessly to deliver according to the agreed timeline.

«We want to let the world know that in Cortina we are winning the challenge of organizing a major international sports event during a global pandemic – declares Alessandro Benetton, President of Fondazione Cortina 2021 – Just like the 1956 Olympics became a showcase for Italy’s post-war economic boom, the 2021 World Championships in Cortina are a symbol of a country that fights the pandemic and gets up again, so that they can look to tomorrow with confidence and with pride in being Italian.”
