One of Italy’s best known nordic skiing events, the Granfondo Dobbiaco Cortina comes back on its historic track in early February.
The 45th edition of the Granfondo Dobbiaco Cortina will take place on 5th and 6th February 2022. The race runs along the famous Lunga Via delle Dolomiti, the former railway track linking Cortina to Dobbiaco, today a walking and cycling route throughout much of the year and a cross-country track in the winter months.
The beautiful and unique track is one of the characterising elements of this classic cross-country ski race that has been taking place every year since 1977, along with the pure atmosphere of the woods and glimpses on the Dolomite peaks. The track runs along the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites, Cortina’s protected area, with its wealth of nature and Alpine woods and has its highlights in the two illuminated galleries, the ancient church of Ospitale and the Viewpoint on the Tre Cime.
The Dobbiaco Cortina is composed of two races: Saturday 5th February is the day of the 42 km classic race, while the 32 km skating takes place on the following day. A focal point for both races is Fiames, Cortina’s last hemlet before the woods towards Dobbiaco, roughly 4 km from the town centre.
The Fiames Sport Nordic Center is Cortina’s point of reference for nordic skiing with its groomed pistes for beginners and experts alike, including in the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites, a bar and refreshment point, a ski school and spaces with everything required for cross-country skiing, from dressing rooms to a ski rental and the ticket office. Not far from Fiames are several hotels, including the Nord Hotel, Dolomiti Lodge Alverà, Hotel al Larin and Hotel Des Alpes.
