The La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail marks the return of international travel to Cortina

The La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail, a spectacular night trail running competition of 120km, will be back in Cortina on 25th June 2021 for its 14th edition, after a virtual edition in 2020. The competition, one of the most important trail running events worldwide, will mark the return of international travel to Cortina with its roughly 1,800 participants, 51% of which are international athletes, especially from France, Poland and the UK.

The La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail, worth 5 ITRA points, will start at 11 p.m. in Corso Italia, in the town center of Cortina, and will continue all night long. The maximum time limit to complete the race is 30 hours, but the first runner is expected to cross the finish line in just about 12 hours and 20 minutes.

The 120 km racetrack goes through some of the most scenic spots of the Dolomites, including Mount Cristallo, the Tofane, Cinque Torri and Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The maximum altitude is Forcella Lavaredo (2,450 m) and the longest climb, along Val Travenanzes, is 1,200 m, for a total elevation gain of 5,800 m throughout the race.

In addition to the main race, there are three additional trail running competitions: the Cortina Skyrace (20 km and 1,000 m+), the Cortina Trail (48 km and 2,600 m+, with 1,700 entries) and the UltraDolomites (80 km and 4,100 m+, with 1,000 entries), which has the distinctive trait of having a different starting point every year.

It is no coincidence that these competitions take place in Cortina, the running paradise in the Italian Alps. The mountain town offers running enthusiasts a wide variety of trails of different lengths and difficulty, surrounded by very diverse landscapes in the heart of the stunning UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites, from the high mountains to the enchanted woods, from high altitude glades to trails between lakes and streams in the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites.
