Taste of Cortina: a summer of traditional and gourmet food

With a mixture of culinary tradition and innovation, Cortina d’Ampezzo has planned for its visitors a summer of taste you cannot miss!

From the 4th July at the SanBrite restaurant, chef Riccardo Gaspari and his team have decided to only use natural sweeteners, already present in the raw materials used for their dishes. The names of the desserts say it all (or almost): “Apples, apples and apples”, which uses three types of apples in three different textures, “Carrots and almonds”, which plays with a combination of a root and a fruit, and the “Top Inambur”, which pushes their experimenting even further by offering a tuber as a dessert. So come to Sanbrite for a true taste revolution ([email protected] | +39 0436 863882).

2019 news: the Baita Piè Tofana Restaurant has reopened! The historic restaurant born in 1962 at the foot of the Tofane, originally a building for timekeepers during the races of the 1956 Winter Olympics, is back again with an entirely new concept and menu, thanks to its new management by Michel Oberhammer.  A great way to discover a high-quality cuisine that offers sophisticated dishes of the Italian cuisine, made by Piedmont born chef Roberto Ottone (+39 0436 4248).

On Thursday 22th August, don’t miss the historic gourmet event of the Ampezzo valley summer: the Cortina Summer Party. The high-altitude picnic features gourmet dishes of the local chefs; Tyrolean dress code. ([email protected] | +39 392 4844302).

On Sunday 25th August, don’t miss another event at the Cristallo restaurant, in collaboration with the Rosa Alpina Hotel and Spa of San Cassiano: Standing lunch in Ascot Style. Flashy and elegant hats, toasts, delicious food and live swing music (info and reservations: [email protected] | +39 0436 881111).

The tastiest occasion to try the dishes of three Michelin star chef Norbert Niederkofler and Cristallo’s own chef Marco Pinelli, all together with the best Italian wines and spirits. This event will help support, with its proceeds, the AIRC Foundation for cancer research (+39 0436 881111). September is Cortina’s gourmet month par excellence. It starts with The Queen of Taste on 7th and 8th September, a food festival presenting the best of the local cuisine revisited with a gourmet twist by some of the best chefs of Cortina and neighbouring valleys. The pivotal concept is STREAT, made up of streat + eat. Street food the Cortina way: elegantly tasted on central Corso Italia. StrEat lunch, on Saturday, is a lunch on a long, finely set table in Cortso Italia. A limited number of participants will be served a menu specifically designed for the event. In the evening, StrEat Chef will take place in Cortina’s centre: The Queen of Taste’s Chefs will have a wooden stall each where they will be serving their street food creations. A great occasion to taste some traditional recipes revisited in a different format. The public will be able to buy sets of tickets to then use at each stall. Finally, StrEat Km0 will take place on Sunday for the whole day. A food market will be selling local products, short chain products and promoting the local specialties, as well as the a healthy food culture. Chef Carlo CraccoLella Costa and the female team of Imoco Volley and Radio Piterpan will all be in Cortina on 14th September for SCOOP! Community makes fun! the great festival of cooperatives. A day rich in events, such as show cookings and tastings, to promote food and wine excellences of the territory. Plus shows, music and workshops for families and children. There will be very interesting experience paths, such as breakfast overlooking the mountains, where you will enjoy the exclusive view of the landscape surrounding Cortina. Chef Carlo Cracco will be the head of the jury of experts. The day will end with the Scoop! Party in piazza Angelo Dibona, with entertainment from Fedro from Radio Piterpan. (info: www.dolomiti.org/en/cortina/events/scoop/ | tickets on eventbrite and at La Cooperativa di Cortina in Corso Italia 40).

The following weekend, on 20th and 21st September, it’s time for the Delicious Festival Dolomiti, a sporting, cultural and culinary event that aims at valuing Cortina d’Ampezzo’s historical, natural, alpine and enogastronomic heritage. For two days, culinary arts and sport will come together for a series of trail running and climbing competitions (for both experts and children), together with recipes prepared by local restaurant owners at the Pala Delicious in Pocol. There will be two trail running competitions combined with tastings of the chefs‘ dishes in the dining locations: the 44.2 km Delicious Trail Dolomiti and the 22.9 km Short Delicious Trail Dolomiti. The Delicious Climbing Dolomiti, a non-competitive 2-people climbing competition, will take place at the Cinque Torri.
